Kinobe & Soul Beat Africa of Uganda come to Pipestem, WV as the sixth annual Culturefest World Music & Arts Festival rolls into town September 10-13 at The Appalachian South Folklife Center. Kinobe and 25 other music and dance performances from around the world and right here in Charleston will be featured along with workshops, children’s activities, drum circles, healing arts, artisan vendors, camping and much more.

The International Chili Society (ICS) is bringing the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff to Charleston, WV this October. Aimed to promote, develop and improve the preparation and appreciation of true chili, this global event brings together over 400 competitors from all over the world.
The Appalachian Power Park is the venue for this year’s chilifest, a deviation from the baseball games it normally hosts. The stadium is the perfect venue for an event of this magnitude, as competitors and their respective groups and families will be flocking to Charleston.

Though “Farm Fresh Fun” is the theme for this year’s state fair, there will be as much (if not more) “fun” as there is fresh farm produce. Aside from classes in livestock exhibits, food contests, crafts, and agricultural produce, there are plenty of activities for everybody to enjoy.

Auditions for West Virginia’s Finest singing competition will be held this August and September all around the state. Aspiring singers in Charleston can audition on August 21 and 28, 6:30pm to 8pm at Capitol Roaster’s Café, corner of Quarrier and Summers streets.
To audition, interested parties must sing along to a CD or pre-recorded track. They can also opt to sing a capella; intruments are not allowed. Solo singers are welcomed, as do groups of up to five members. There are categories for youth (ages 12-14 and 15-17) and adults (R&B/blues/jazz, …

Summer is nearing its end, so what better way to celebrate than an evening of music and great company? Known for the music and dancing, this year’s summerfest also features fireworks, Ice Cream Sunday and kiddy games to keep the young ones busy.
