Local actor Joe Miller was awarded the “Best Actor” Award for his performance in Charleston Stage Company’s production of Underneath the Lintel at the Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Community Theatre Festival held this past weekend in Lexington Kentucky.
The festival featured over 15 play productions performed by community theatres from ten states throughout the southeast, including productions from Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Like most boys, John grew up admiring these scaled radio-controlled vehicles at the Fountain Hobby Shop on Washington Street. Feel like dancing? WV Dance offers both private and group ballroom dancing lessons in various locations in West Virginia. Headquartered in Charleston, WV, the company promotes ballroom dancing and all kinds of sport.
This spring, ballroom lessons will be held at the 3rd floor ballroom of the Geary Student Union at the University of Charleston. General community members will be charged $10 per person, while UC students, staff and faculty can take lessons for free. Charleston Stage Company (CSC) will hold auditions for final production of the 2009-2010 season, Jane Martin’s comedy, Flaming guns of the Purple Sage on Sunday and Monday, February 21 and 22 at 7:00 pm at WVSU’s Capitol Center Theatre, 123 Summers Street in downtown Charleston.

The Charleston Light Opera Guild starts the year with a winter staging of the popular opera, The Pirates of Penzance. This comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan tells the story of Frederic, who was apprenticed to a band of pirates, instead of being apprenticed to a pilot. This musical farce has been performed countless times in Broadway, garnering awards for Best Revival and Outstanding musical.
